Weekly Meditation

Each Tuesday evening at 7:30 pm, Anne Marie Cummings guides us through Shamatha, or "calm abiding", meditation. All are welcome. Reservations are preferred but not required; don't be afraid to drop in. A suggested donation of $10 goes toward our instructor's fees.

Instructor Anne Marie Cummings says of the meditation: "You may ask, 'What is the purpose of meditating?' And my answer is 'To free ourselves from attachments, and from aversions in the mind.' This you can achieve by watching your mind which gives you insight into its habits, habits that may be holding you back from happiness."

When the mind becomes concentrated on thebreath, it becomes serene; the meditator enters a state of bliss. Inyoga, Anne Marie challenges her students to achieve new levels ofstrength, balance, and flexibility by combining Vinyasa, Hatha,Ashtanga, and Iyengar asanas. She strongly believes the physicalpostures are a gateway to connecting to the self, and as a result offerrelief from physical and/or mental ailments.
