  • dinner at Maxie's Supper Club
  • wines from Red Feet Wine Market
  • day and week passes to Island Health & Fitness

On Tuesday, March 23rd at 6pm in the third floor conference room at Island Health and Fitness, Rasa Spa presented "Endurance, Inspiration and Giving Back". The evening was centered around Christopher LaVallee, a Massachusetts native and former Marine who decided to take up the Racing the Planet challenge of completing a 155-mile foot race across Australia in 7 days. Rather than do this solely as a personal test, Christopher decided to honor his father, a cancer survivor, and all the many friends, family, and community members whose lives have been touched by cancer by using the race to raise awareness, and funds, for Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes.

The evening featured a distinguished group of panelists speaking on the various aspects of race-training followed by a Q & A. We'll discuss nutrition, physical therapy, massage, recovery time, endurance as well as the work CRCFL is doing in our community.

Speakers joining Christopher included:

  • John Comereski, General Manager at Island Health & Fitness
  • Sharon Kaplan & Bob Riter from Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes
  • Cindy Milner, Sports Dietician at Cayuga Center for Healthy Living and CMC
  • Jake Veigel, M.D. at Cayuga Sports Medicine
  • Rachel Hogancamp, LMT, Managing Partner at Rasa Spa
  • Herbert Dwyer of ASI Renovations, sponsor of Team LaVallee

In order to help Team LaVallee reach their fundraising goal of $20,000, donations will be accepted though there is no fee for the evening. During the week of 3/22 through 3/26 at Rasa Spa, a portion of the proceeds for all sessions booked will go to Team LaVallee.

Where ever you are on your own racing journey - whether it be your first Duck Race, fifth Skunk Cabbage, or tenth Forge the Gorgeous - we encourage our community to come out and support Team LaVallee and our local web of health care professionals, who help support us in our own physical challenges, whatever they may be.
