At Rasa, we believe that the spa environment should be designed to relax and entertain guests as they escape into the tranquil environment—including the visual component.

“Much like spa treatments that relax, energize, and stimulate the senses through touch, smell, and feel, a well-installed fine art exhibit greatly enhances our guest experience by adding the visual element of stimulating and energizing the senses,” says Rasa Spa’s Managing Partner Rachel Hogancamp.

Featuring works that span artistic disciplines and genres, Rasa Spa offers a rotating selection of artist showcasing a wealth of art from Ithaca and the surrounding area.

Rachel Hogancamp

Rachel Hogancamp has been a photographer for many years, but recently revived her passion for it when she started to point her camera at birds. She first began working in photography after graduating from Ithaca College with her BS in Arts Administration in 1991. She then worked as a part-time photographer in the theatre world for more than a decade, shooting actors, musicians, and artists.
During this time Rachel completed her training at the Finger Lakes School of Massage and opened her own massage practice while also teaching part-time at FLSM. When the opportunity to open Rasa Spa came her way, she put away her camera in a professional capacity and concentrated on her new business venture. Rasa Spa opened in partnership with Island Health & Fitness in 2006, and has grown into a successful business that she is extremely proud of.
In February 2016 Rachel was diagnosed with breast cancer and successfully underwent treatment over the following year-plus. In a somewhat ironic twist, taking a bit of time away from the spa allowed her to reconnect with her camera. In July of 2016 a professional photographer friend new to the area asked Rachel where he could find some birds to photograph and she took her first trip to the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge at the north end of Cayuga Lake. As they say, the rest is history.
Since picking up photography again that summer, she's taken her camera all over the Finger Lakes region, Cape Cod, and a number of places in Florida. Photographing birds, especially birds in flight, has proven to be a challenge and unearthed a huge passion. Rachel has always been passionate about the preservation and protection of wildlife and has found spending the time it takes to capture the image of a bird in flight a fantastic form of meditation. It's proven to be a beautiful connection between the spa world and the natural world. She also believes that her photography of birds helped her through her diagnosis and treatment.
Rachel's main focus continues to be in her role as the Managing Partner of Rasa Spa, but she's carving out time in her schedule to sit with her camera in the wonderful world of birds. She plans to continue to grow as a bird photographer and share what she's fortunate enough to witness with others.
