At Rasa, we believe that the spa environment should be designed to relax and entertain guests as they escape into the tranquil environment—including the visual component.

“Much like spa treatments that relax, energize, and stimulate the senses through touch, smell, and feel, a well-installed fine art exhibit greatly enhances our guest experience by adding the visual element of stimulating and energizing the senses,” says Rasa Spa’s Managing Partner Rachel Hogancamp.

Featuring works that span artistic disciplines and genres, Rasa Spa offers a rotating selection of artist showcasing a wealth of art from Ithaca and the surrounding area.

My training is in scientific illustration, that obscure field which melds science, natural history, and fine art.  My work reflects what I find beautiful and interesting in the Creation around us, bringing attention to the details that might otherwise go unnoticed.

I grew up near Ithaca, NY, and returned to my hometown after several years of education and living in some interesting places, all of which gave me both a lasting love of travel and an appreciation for the beauty in my own back yard.  I studied Biology and Art at Eastern University (St. Davids, PA), and hold a graduate degree from UC Santa Cruz in Scientific Illustration.  Other formative experiences were teaching art classes in the central plateau of Haiti and interning in botanical illustration at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (London).  Since returning to the Ithaca area in the late '90's, I have established my freelance business in illustration and graphic design for a wide variety of projects and people.  Recent local clients include Audubon, Au Sable Institute of Environmental Studies, the Paleontological Research Institute, and restoring the horses on our beloved Stewart Park Carousel).  Sometimes my work takes me further afield, such at to the International Sustainable Development Studies Institute in Chaing Mai, Thailand.

I have put a lot of energy and passion into creating my line of paper ephemera (you can shop here)  You can find me most weekends from April–December at the Ithaca Farmers’ Market in booth #84, at several juried shows around upstate New York, and I am a member of Handwork, Ithaca's artisan co-operative. I am also a member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators.

I particularly love working with people and organizations who are involved in environmental issues and education...it feels good to use my skills to help protect and preserve our beautiful, intricate planet.
